The Four Seasons of Eichstätt and the Altmühltal is the theme of American Artist, Shoshanna Ahart’s May exhibition in Eichstätt. The exhibition, which runs from May 4 – 31st , at the Tourist Information Center for the Altmühltal Nature Park, features the artist’s new work rendered in her signature chalk pastel technique. The public is invited to the opening on Friday, May 4th at 7 pm. Internationally known Neuburg artist, Ute Patel-Mißfeldt, will speak about the artist’s work. A musical program echoing the theme of the exhibition will be performed by Cellistin, Fatima Vaillancourt.

American Artist, Shoshanna Ahart invites you to celebrate her 3 year anniversary in Eichstätt with the exhibition, Eichstätt – Ansichten & Einblicke.  Ahart captures the beauty of the ordinary and the poetry of moment in her exquisitely rendered paintings, which are drenched with color and brimming with light.   Since her arrival from Washington DC in September 2003, Ahart has created more than 150 paintings in pastel, watercolor and oil of her new Heimat – Eichstätt, the Altmühltal and her atelier interior.  This limited engagement exhibition offers the public an intimate view of the American Artist’s world.

Ahart Exhibits on Two Continents September 2005


The public on both sides of the Atlantic will have the opportunity to see Shoshanna Ahart's artwork this autumn. Ahart's paintings are included in the international exhibition "The Language of Art", which opens September 9, 2005 at the Ache700 art center outside of Salzburg, Austria. The multi-media exhibit features the works of seven European and seven American artists.

Eichstätt - Impressions of An American
March 1 - 29, 2005

On March 1, 2005 more than 100 people attended the opening reception of Shoshanna Ahart's current exhibition, Eichstätt-Impressions of An American at the Galerie der Sparkasse in Eichstätt, Germany. Dietmar Bezold from Sparkasse Eichstätt gave the welcoming speech, which was followed by a musical interlude of classical guitar performed by Rudi Troegl. Friedrich Gegner, head of the Art Department at Gabrieli-Gymnasium then gave a speech about the artist and her current work. The exhibition features 30 pastel paintings of Eichstätt and the surrounding Altmühl landscape, which were painted by Ahart since her move to Eichstätt in September 2003. Rüdiger Klein, art critic for the Donaukurier and the Eichstätter Kurier called Ahart's depiction of her subject, "...a sensational view..." and the exhibition "...a brilliant debut".
The exhibition runs through March 29, 2005.

Shoshanna in Eichstätt


After a 15 year tenure in Washington, Shoshanna has taken residence abroad. Her new home and location of the Ahart Atelier is Eichstätt, Germany. Just one hour north of Munich situated on the Altmühl river, Eichstätt is known for its stunning architecture and picturesque landscape. Affectionately referred to as The baroque jewel in the heart of Bavaria, Eichstätt is the perfect inspiration for Ahart’s artwork.

Open Studios

In conjunction with her exhibition at Touchstone Gallery, Shoshanna will host an Artist's Open Studio as part of the Spring Open Studios at the Jackson Art Center. This will be Shoshanna's last Open Studio for the public. After May 17, visits to her studio will be by appointment only through mid-June. Come and see all of Shoshanna's work before it is shipped to Germany! The Ahart studio in Georgetown will close June 30, 2003.

The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities has agreed to purchase three of Shoshanna Ahart's paintings through the Images of Washington 2002 Competition. The oil on wood-panel paintings, Almost Spring, Autumn Light and Yellow House will become part of the Commission's collection of movable works. These artworks are placed in offices of agencies of the Government of the District of Columbia, including the offices of top ranking District officials. The works are loaned to agencies for several months to several years. Out of 104 applicants to the competition, the Commission identified 148 works by 55 artists for purchase this year.

Shoshanna Ahart began entering the annual Images of Washington Competition in 1999. To date the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities has purchased eight of Ms. Ahart's artworks through this competition.
